IT’S OUR FIFTIETH !!

Parody of a parody of, “Are You Lonesome Tonight?”
Apologies to Elvis, by Carolyn Jensen

Are you lonesome tonight?
Surely you miss us tonight.
Are you sorry we drifted apart?
Does your memory stray to that bright sunny day,
When we tasted that choc’lat éclair?
Did we walk through dry leaves on sidewalks of Grandview?
With Dave, Mardelle, Chuck, Joan, Bill, Sal, Dan, or Sue?
Is your heart filled with pain to come back again?
Tell us, surely you miss us tonight.

[Talk, like Elvis did.]
There’s no need to be lonesome this year.
You know, someone said Grandview’s the center of the world
And each of us must play a part in our 50th reunion.
Act One was in the Fifties with Elvis and friends.
You looked so cute in tennis shoes and rolled up jeans.
Then Act Two, in the Sixties, with unforgettable scenes.
Act Three was hard to track as we lived everywhere.
But we have more acts to come, our stage won’t be bare
as we’ll be waiting for you here.
There’s no need to be lonesome this year.

(Sing again)

Are you lonesome tonight?
Surely you miss us tonight.
Are you sorry we drifted apart?
Does your memory stray to your youthful good luck
To have papers to fold, roll, and tuck?
Do your store window panes seem empty and bare?
Do you look for the soap with Halloween in the air?
Is your heart with us again? Will we see you and then
Be glad we are not lonesome this year?
